Assenheim's Argentinian Sandwiches
I’ve had work-time lunches from Assenheim’s a number of times before pre-pandemic. Now the South-American chicken shop is running delivery to people’s homes, and I was very glad to have some again. Its previous business was delivering to offices, so there wasn’t too much of a change or unpredictability here - I had every confidence they could deliver the same food they always have, and indeed they did.

Our order and the cost
We ordered:
- Chicken (200g) salad and potatoes (£8.50)
- Chicken (200g) supreme sandwich (£8.50)
- Choripan (£5.95)
For a total cost of £22.95. In this case we vastly over-ordered, I think that just the chicken with salad and the Choripan would have been sufficient to be a large meal for 2 people, which would give a cost of approximately £10pp (even including delivery charge). If you have 3 or 4 people you could probably increase the chicken portion to 300g and still be good, in which case this would be very cheap.
Unfortunately we didn’t have too great success reheating our leftovers the next day, although it was still fairly tasty.
What I liked
Pretty much everything. Assenheim’s is generally known for its spiced chicken, and this was extremely nice as usual. The “main” dish is the chicken with e.g. potatoes/salad/etc., but personally I’ve always preferred it in sandwich form, which comes in a lovely bread with all the sauces/salad/etc. inside. Whichever way you get it they don’t skimp on anything in the meal.
They also serve a variety of South-American sandwiches, we went for the Argentinian street food Choripan because my partner and I both felt like some chorizo, and it was fantastic. Again no skimping on the chorizo, and although the choice of very soft bread seems a little unusual it went together really well, and there’s a nice salsa/salad-ish mix of stuff with it to give it more flavours.
What to watch out for
We didn’t have the best success reheating in the microwave the next day — perhaps be wary of ordering too much (it’s easy to be tempted), or alternatively maybe experiment with oven/grill based reheating rather than only using a microwave.
At the moment I think delivery is only available for lunchtimes - their previous business was mostly people ordering lunch at work.
Ordering recommendations
- Any order should include at least one item with their chicken
- But also don’t shy away from trying their other sandwiches - they’re excellent as well
- Be prepared to nibble on the food bit by bit over the course of an afternoon
